Creating Safer Student Accommodation with Physical Security

Chapter Aldgate is a high-end student accommodation building that can house up to 400 students. Located in London’s White Chapel, it’s nearby HULT Business School, Istituto Marangoni London, Queen Mary University, and Aldgate Underground. It is one of 13 buildings operated by the Chapter brand and is owned by Real Estate and Property company, Greystar.

Challenge

The client needed to prevent unauthorised access into the student accommodation with a solution that would still complement their unique stripped back interior that reveals the raw structure of the building with minimal aesthetics. With this, there was still a requirement to create a free flow of people to reduce crowding, even in peak times.

Solution

EasyGate SPD-R Speed Gates were selected for protection against unauthorised access on both Chapter Aldgates reception desk entrances. The speed gates ability to allow 40 people through per minute, per lane, ensures there is a smooth flow of people entering and exiting at all times. For added ease to the user and greater efficiency, dual wing configuration was opted for as it allows for a wider passage and makes transitions smoother in the peak periods. EasyGate SPD-R Speed Gates were also a great fit for the client due to the 36 pairs of infra-red optical sensors that monitor passage lanes for advanced tailgating detection. To complement the client’s unique interior, brushed stainless steel speed gates were selected to coincide with the industrial look of the stripped back reception.

Results

Chapter Aldgate was left with a reliable security solution that added a layer of security on top of their security guards to enable safe 24/7 access. While providing comfort to students who live within the facilities, it has also given the client an aesthetic, minimal product that seamlessly blends in.
