Controlling Access in a Bustling City College

Nottingham College invested £58.5m into its state-of-the-art City Hub campus, providing learning and community facilities to thousands of students. In the heart of the city centre, the building expects to have more than 2000 students and staff using the new development. The completion of the City Hub was a central part of the colleges’ plan to provide students with modern, well-equipped facilities across Nottingham.

Challenge

Due to the high number of people entering and exiting the City Hub campus, it was essential for the client to have a solution in place that controls access, keeping staff and students safe.  

Solution

Meesons installed seven EasyGate SG Speed Gates to Nottingham City Hub due to its slimline design, helping the facility to make the most of the available space. This also meant that they could reduce crowding as more speed gates could increase the throughput. In order to simplify the installation after a site visit meeting with the contractor and College, Meesons proposed using a speed gate sub-frame solution. This meant that the contractor could set out the footprint of the cabinets with the cabling securely routed through the framework to the correct positions. Doing this allowed the speed gates to be put in place afterwards, preventing the cabinets from getting damaged prior to opening. 

Results

Once the tiled floor was complete, the Easygate SG Speed Gates were put in place alongside glass infills to create a secure line leading to the college’s facilities. When the installation was fully finished, one of Meesons Technical Engineers was onsite to provide on-site training, ensuring staff fully understood how to operate the speed gates.
