Stopping unauthorised access is crucial to the security of your business. Access control systems are only one piece of the puzzle; cards can always be lost or stolen, and even biometric systems can fail to enhance security if tailgating is not prevented.
So, what’s the missing link?
We believe it’s a Smart Access Control System, otherwise known as SMACS.
What is SMACS?
SMACS works by enhancing your existing security systems with an additional 3D recognition and bio-visual body mass analysis. Once an authorised user has passed through the system for the first time, SMACS automatically registers their 3D shape and user profile for future verification.
By interfacing with your existing access control solution, SMACS quickly scans a predefined floor area for a single occupant before instructing the access control system to unlock the requested door.
In the case of two or more people being detected, the secure door remains locked, and a voice message can direct the users to exit and re-enter one at a time.
What are the benefits besides enhanced security?
SMACS is a discreet solution and requires minimal supervision and management. It can also integrate into a video IP surveillance platform for additional piece of mind.
The system can be adapted to any business or situation. For example, it’s ideal for heritage buildings where the floor or building fabric can’t be impacted. Existing heritage doors can be used, or doors that are more in keeping with the building’s architecture.
It’s also flexible in terms of location; with different shaped airlocks, it could be applied to a stairwell, preventing access to different floors of a building if needed. It can also be moved to different zones when required.
SMACS material can automate your loading bay, allowing deliveries through a designated drop area outlined by simple floor markings and offers control of multiple doors within a lobby or corridor. It gives building managers complete control over personnel access rights and control over the materials entering or leaving the building.
Wheelchair access is fully supported, and optional full voice guidance helps assist users through the system.
What are the different SMACS solutions?
SMACS comes in a range of seven different solutions, including goods-only access, flexible multiple door access, and more. All can be adapted and customised to suit different requirements, ensuring the solution fits your needs.
One example of a SMACS solution the SMACS FlexMat. It is a highly flexible anti-tailgating security solution in a multi-door environment, enabling the secure movement of materials plus users.
The SMACS FlexMat was recently provided to SWISSCOM data centre, which had a requirement to increase the level of security through a 3-door mantrap, whilst maintaining high productivity. Typical flows through the mantrap included staff, wheelchair users, hand luggage and large material.
Installing the SMACS FlexMat ensured all users, with or without material, were subject to the same level of high accuracy tailgating detection. It also integrated seamlessly into the existing architectural and technical infrastructure of the data centre.
