Meesons, supplier, installer and service provider for a wide range of innovative anti-tailgating access control solutions, is celebrating being shortlisted for the finals in multiple categories of this year’s London Construction Awards.
Despite being up against stiff competition and a record number of entries, Meesons was selected as finalists in the Fire Safety Solution of the Year category and Product Innovation of the Year category.
The London Construction Awards finale will take place on the evening of day one of London Build, 27th November, and will be attended by some of the UK’s leading contractors, architects and specifiers.
Meesons was shortlisted in the Product Innovation of the Year category for developing an innovative Security Portal (FPJ140 2HP), which is still the first and only physical anti-tailgating barrier to be fully compliant with LPS1175 Issue 8, whilst featuring a spacious, extendable and secure interlocking door system ideal for wheelchair users, individuals with bicycles and a high level of throughput. The company has gone on to develop 6 models of Security Portals and 15 variants that meet LPS1175 Issue 8.
Loss Prevention Standard (LPS) 1175: Issue 8 is an important security standard that relates to requirements and testing procedures for the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) approval and listing of intruder resistant building components, strong points, security enclosures and free standing barriers. It measures a products ability to withstand a forced attack by criminals using a range of tools.
Judges at the awards shortlisted Meesons because it is the only company to achieve this important standard whilst incorporating greater functionality to improve the user experience.
Meesons was shortlisted in the Fire Safety Solution of the Year category after its FPJ140 2SF Security Portal gained accreditation to provide fire protection and smoke control on both sides of the flat side doors as per the European Fire Resistance norm: EN 13501-2 & EN 1634-1: 2014.
This innovation represents a significant step change in fire safety for customers on a wide range of facilities. Meesons FPJ140 2SF & FPJ140 1AF Portals are unique in that they are the only Security Portals that have been specifically designed to meet fire rating requirements as a single, fully integrated unit.
The certification means the portal will retain its structure and integrity in the event of a fire and prevent the passage of flames and hot gases as well as limiting the temperature on the unexposed face of the unit.
Unlike fire doors, which generally don’t offer any form of tailgating detection, Meesons’ Security Portal will only allow the transit of authorised users. Any attempt at tailgating behind an authorised user will be detected and the secure side doors will remain locked preventing the transit.
Jeremy Terry, Chief Executive Officer at Meesons, said: “We are delighted to be recognised for our important and pioneering achievements in the physical access control sector over the last 12 months. Physical security and fire safety remain priorities for all our customers and it is satisfying to be shortlisted in both categories at this year’s LCA Awards, especially as there was a record number of entrants.”
Meesons has over 30 years’ experience in anti-tailgating solutions and has a unique approach to designing and supplying high quality, bespoke solutions. The company’s vision is to unite architects, contractors, consultants, clients, end-users and building owners in creating safe, secure buildings.
