What is World Architecture Day?
Created in 1985 by the UIA (International Union for Architects) (which represents over 1 million architects worldwide), the annual World Architecture Day celebrates historical and modern architecture across the globe. Every first Monday of October, World Architecture Day is commemorated to align with the UN’s Habitat Day. This year, UIA has set the theme as ‘well-being’ and has been holding webinars and events throughout 2022 to educate people on this matter.
Why do we celebrate World Architecture Day?
The purpose of World Architecture Day is not only to celebrate the world’s extremely talented architects and their beautiful work but also to highlight the issues raised in each year’s theme. During the year, resources are implemented to demonstrate how architecture can help with cities and habitats. With this, the UIA can study and explain how architects can better society with their chosen theme.
How do Meesons work with architects?
At Meesons, we work with architects every day. Whether presenting a CPD, flow rate analysis, complying with security standards or customising products to fit the client’s design intent, we work closely with architects to achieve project specifications. With CPDs, we offer education to professionals on physical security in buildings enabling them to make informed decisions while furthering their professional development.
Our collaboration with architects
When we create bespoke products, we need to fill in architects’ specific criteria. For example, with India Buildings, Meesons provided speed gates with a unique bronze surface finish to complement period features of the building, a critical element of Falconer Chester Hall Architecture’s designs. Not only this, but we also provide BIM models located within NBS and CAD drawings, ensuring that architects and specifiers have all the information they need in a way that works for them. Alongside this, guiding them on how many of our products will fit into the space given and the capacity of how many people it will let in is vital to collaborating as well as sharing knowledge.
How do we fit in with the theme of well-being for World Architecture Day?
Since World Architecture Day’s theme this year is well-being, physical security slots into this theme perfectly. The peace of mind that physical security adds to people inside buildings makes for greater well-being and a sense of safety. Not only this but the stylish bespoke designs that come with the work of architects and us ensure that a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment is built, allowing people to feel good about where they are.
Working together for safer architecture.
Meesons Specification Manager, Andy Collins, works alongside architects as a vital part of his role with us. He explains why we work so closely together:
“At Meesons, relationships with architects are among the most vital. Design and functionality are often a fine balance, understanding the client’s vision for a project whilst providing safe and secure access is paramount. “

Here’s to another year of fantastic architecture.
Now, we hope that World Architecture Day’s influence on architects’ contribution to well-being continues and flourishes in modern times.
